The Database Administrators role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune SQL server databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. This position will also be responsible for supporting reporting and data warehousing functions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Assess and develop long-term goals for production databases working with data owners Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, and coding standards to data management. Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets. Assist business owners in developing models, procedures, and protocols for reporting Research, review, and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing report procedures and develop strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes. Develop routines and procedures for end-users to facilitate best practices use of reporting tools and applications. Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. Create models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones. Install and configure relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity. Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues. Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements. Monitor, optimize and allocate physical data storage for database systems. Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems. Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases. Create, or support creation of, required reports in response to business user needs. Perform database transaction and security audits. Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.
Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent technical training
Years and Type of Experience: 3 or more years experience with Microsoft SQL 2012 and 2016 within a DBA capacity
Key Required Skills, Knowledge and Capabilities: Systems engineering and administration skills within a Microsoft environment Knowledge of clustering the SQL servers Experience with SQL database design Expert in database normalization, Back-up / Restore, data import / export, troubleshooting, database objects authorization, DTS; and objects creation such as tables, views, user created data types, indexes, stored procedures, cursors, and triggers Experience in capacity planning and performance tuning Demonstrated ability to perform under high pressure situations Experience in performance tuning, trending, capacity planning, query optimization, and database consistency checks Experience with operational excellence, troubleshooting, and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues Excellent knowledge in system tables and system stored procedures using T-SQL Experience with data warehousing, data modeling and data architecture Excellent planning, time management, communications, decision making and organizational skills
